Few things discourage applying for a grant more quickly than a requirement to “match” funds. What does that even mean, “matching funds?” What the heck is “cost share?” And what is the difference between in-kind and cash match? More importantly, where do you find and how do you track these expense or donations? In this session, we will begin by first understanding what matching funds are, how to calculate matching funds, and when/whether a match is required. We’ll also look at ways to simplify the process of reporting the amounts to your funder.
Yes, it’s a lot of work, but it is possible to meet funder requirements without angering partners, vendors, and bosses! By the end of this session, participants will learn to:
1. Understand the logical purpose of the match or cost share
2. Find new and different sources of match
3. Document match via online and paper tools.
