The Top 10 Mistakes When Purchasing Under a FEMA Award presentation details the top 10 most common noncompliance findings from Office of Inspector General audit reports. Participants learn about common procurement compliance pitfalls and how to avoid them in the future. Some of the issues discussed in the presentation will be full & open competition and how competition should not be restricted, exigency or emergency circumstances, required contract provisions, and much more. Additionally, participants will be shown and provided with the tools and resources to help combat these noncompliance issues during their procurements.

John Griego - Program Specialist, Procurement Disaster Assistance Team

John Griego is a senior program specialist, with 4 years on PDAT after transitioning from work as a contractor in the GPD front office and a program analyst with FEMA’s Office of External Affairs. Prior to joining the FEMA family, John served as a regional staffer for U.S. Senator Michael Bennet in Colorado, where he worked closely within the state’s military and Veterans communities. John graduated with both his graduate and undergraduate degrees in Public Policy and International Studies from the University of Denver where he studied abroad in Peru. He is a proud Coloradan where he works remotely, finding time for fly fishing, skiing, hiking with his goldendoodle, and cheering on the state’s championship sports teams!
