Description

Description:

This webinar will provide an overview of the ins and outs for applying for and managing grants from pharmaceutical and medical device companies with a focus on medical education grants. Grants from pharmaceutical and medical device companies are regulated under the Physician Payments Sunshine Act and must meet requirements related to accreditation standards for continuing education which requires special handling of grant applications, use of funds, and reconciliations.

Why do pharmaceutical companies give medical education grants? We will briefly discuss how medical education grants help increase the adoption of new treatments as they go from “bench to bedside”, increase the knowledge of practitioners, promote patient safety, and address the battle of misinformation in healthcare.

Prospecting and proposal development: We will review important steps in finding prospects and completing and submitting proposals and the difference between sponsorship and grants. We will discuss Therapeutic Areas of Interest (TAI), deadline requirements, important metrics, Moore’s Learning objectives, and Patient and Population health outcomes.

Reconciliations: The session will include an overview of requirements for reconciliation and tips and techniques for smooth (or smooth-ish) reporting.

Other types of Pharma grants – We will provide a brief overview of other types of pharma funding including research grants, sponsorships, and patient education.

Sunshine Act and Continuing Education Accreditation Guidelines: We will provide a brief review of the Sunshine Act and requirements for activities that provide continuing medical education (CME) credits for learning opportunities supported by pharma.

The webinar will end with “words of advice” and other resources.
