Description

So often ethics about grants are focused on the mismanagement of grant funding which gets flashy headlines in the news, but ethics are important before a grant proposal is submitted as well. This session will examine areas such as organizational capacity and readiness and program design. Each component will include information tied to grant and development codes of conduct, standard grant best practices, and case studies, as well as a facilitated question and answer session for each component.

Issues of ethics abound when grant professionals examine their organization's readiness to apply for grants. Creating a high-quality grant proposal can be challenging when organizations may also be designing the program at the same time. Often questions about alignment to the organization's strategic plan, chasing money, and mission creep are thrown around. This can be further complicated by new community needs assessments, responses to new community needs, and the addition of partners to an application. In addition, a lack of written procedures can also impact ethical questions bout who in the organization must give the green light before a grant is submitted.
